LOUISE HARVARD
The preservation of areas involved in WWII has been my primary objective. I chose to document places that had been lost and forgotten by today's world; places that had once played important roles during the Second World War.
I felt it necessary to make a record and preserve the selected areas before they disappear.
Rehearsals for the D-day landings, code named Exercise Tiger, took place in Slapton Sands in Devon in April 1944. The practices turned into a disaster when German E-boats intercepted the rehearsals; a mistake which cost the lives of 946 American soldiers.
More men were killed during Exercise Tiger than on D-day itself.
