The Border

The Border is a photographic project which has developed through the last year. I first concentrated on looking at the small differences over the Lancashire and West Yorkshire border. Although the areas are very similar, there are very subtle differences in the people and their ways of life. I had previously looked at this through night time photography and comparing bus stops and train stations to highlight even the small differences in these either side of the border. Since then I have started to be influenced by such photographers as John Davies and Joel Sternfeld, which has made me look at the same idea of the border in different ways. I have since done walks over the Lancashire and West Yorkshire border and took landscape shots of man's effects on the environment on both sides of the border. These effects are quite subtle in some shots, and blatantly obvious in others. Have man's effects on the land been for better or for worse? I have tried to capture man's effect on either side of the border in various ways to make people think about what we're doing to our environment.
