ANNA BATES
My work is centred around the impermanence of the 'bitter sweet' landscape space, looking at memory, intimacy and identity. I photograph to discover another viewpoint but also search for meanings. By photographing places of dislocation that evoke certain feelings, whether it is a post-industrial haven or classic vista, I wander into 'thinking spaces' and realms of nostalgia. The places I photograph echo human fragility, as I quietly explore the fated ubiquity of natural life and death.
