My work stems from an obsession with derelict buildings, and I now explore aspects of spaces empty of people. I am investigating two opposing aesthetics within these areas- that of their beauty and calm and that of their danger and apprehension. I find beauty in dereliction within the colours and form and stillness of the space. I also find beauty and awe in the way nature returns to these spaces man has abandoned. However, these spaces are pervceived as unsafe to visit, and I am visualising this by looking at the forensic aesthetic- how we can see these places as the scene of a crime. This, in turn, has led me onto night shots. Seeing the darkness punctured only by car headlights, we can see the darker side of these spaces.
