The Victorians used photography to preserve the memory of a deceased loved one alive. They used it as a tool to recreate moments that could never be truly experienced again. I have been working with this notion in mind whilst exploring the relationship between sleep and death.

My work focuses on the gentleness and stillness created by the unaware figure and clinical lighting in a bid to invoke truthful emotion in the viewer. The peaceful nature of the images seem to narrow the distance between sleep and death meaning it becomes less of a taboo subject allowing the viewer to comfortably feel relaxed without guilt.
