"The Grandsons of Abraham"

Children are children wherever they live in the world. They have their own fears, their own hopes and aspirations for the future. They can become bored, be happy or sad. However, in underdeveloped countries, they often have to try that much harder if they want to succeed. Their access to education can often be limited. Subsequently, many have a real desire to learn as much as they can, as quickly as they can, just in case the opportunities for education disappear.

I have tried to capture the emotions of rescued street boys, at The Grandsons of Abraham Rescue Centre, Kenya, who are experiencing school life for the first time, having previously lived rough on the streets of Mombasa.

Creating intimacy without being obtrusive can be challenging. I hope my photographs have succeeded in showing reality, whilst keeping the sensitivity the subject matter warrants.
