SAMANTHA YOUNG
I am motivated by the camera's ability to freeze a moment and immortalise its subjects - something I have explored in a number of recent projects based around themes of loss, remembrance and death. The found object has been of great significance to my work recently, producing a photographic inventory of found love letters and video footage belonging to my deceased relatives. In another series of cross processed images, I explored my own experiences of loss with the death of my Grandmother. The images, which I was gathering for a documentary project, became intensely haunting when I came to print them. It was as though they were a prediction of her immanent death, particularly the portrait, and I decided to explore this though the printing of the images, as well as the use of light. |
