MATTHEW TOLLITT
The Perception of the Natural Landscape
The photography that I produce is created through rural walking based on various types of terrain. Each journey is loosely constructed on a map, which I take with me in order to make rough observations of the distances and times. However, the majority of the walks I go on often entail diverging away from the map and wandering off the pedestrianized route. This is not something that is purposely planned but something that is inevitable. On a trail, you are merely a tourist often restrained by fencing and supports offering no freedom to explore the outdoors for yourself. As a walking photographer, my intentions are to be able to visualize areas of the landscape that the 'tourist' is unable to appreciate. |
