My work for the last three years has had a strong link about the absence of a human presence within a space, exploring this space, how it is inhabited and what is left behind by the inhibitor. The way in which I have photographed these voids has therefore made my work become somewhat emotive and objective, this has been primarily influenced by the artists, which I have continuously researched over the past three years.
Throughout my work in my final year I have revisited previous work and become more fascinated about the repetition of structures and there physical appearance. Visiting Blackpool regularly I have been faced, with hundreds of Bed and Breakfasts. Over time I have generated an interest in how the individual chooses which of these to occupy, either influenced by the structure and decoration, or the signs displayed in windows and doorways. The systematic way in which I photograph these spaces, influenced largely by the work of the Becher’s, reflects my own personality strongly, and also my ability to accumulate hundreds of images. I have then gone on to use this as strength, and begun to let it influence the path in which my work has taken.
