Christiane Hoffmann

The Self and I

At first my photography may seem very personal and intimate as I use myself as the model in most of the images. And even though self-portraiture and its history play an important part in my work, I believe the person portrayed is always also still exchangeable.
I am offering the spectator insights into situations lived through, experiences gained and societies assessed; from my point of view of course. But what I present is never meant to be a solid statement or a lecture. What I really want is to open up space for discussion and exchange.
The onlookers decide whether to concentrate on the surface or explore what lies behind.
