Consumptive Landscapes

Much of my work throughout university has revolved around capturing issues that have interested, inspired and provoked me. None more so than issues relating to our society and our environment. Our society is a consumptive one, since the economic boom this country has changed. People are earning more money and spending more. With this comes the replacement of old with new and like a wheel this cycle revolves. But this consumptive wheel has begun to pick up pace and now is turning new to old at an alarming rate. Have you ever bought something that was top of its class and within a month its practical obsolete? This then leads to the question, is technology driving this consumptive wheel? Or are our consumptive attitudes driving technology? Humans consume. It’s in our nature, but at what rate and how we dispose of the old is our choice. The following pieces of work show the true extent of the effects of our consumptive society. The images were produced to inform and educate the viewer of a situation that we all seem to turn a blind eye too, Rubbish. Not only how we dispose of it but also where we dispose of it and what we are throwing away.
