LUCY FLETCHER

P1010136

To describe my work, is to describe a passion of mine. My work's intention this year was to bring to life the issue of animal cruelty. I have always had a soft spot for animals so to be lucky enough to use my photography skills to illustrate animal cruelty, was a great factor for me. My work focuses on dogs because they are the most popular domestic pets, so I believe my images reach a wider audience. Cruelty can range from a dog being abused to a dog being over pampered. My work investigates the large scope of cruelty to enable me to produce a campaign based, body of work to really highlight the issues. Through my work, my intention is to raise public awareness and therefore, equally encourage change. My work experiments with aspects such as composition, colour and subject matter to enable me to produce the most impacting images. The images I have displayed are taken from the range of cruelty areas I have looked into, for example, 'pampered dogs', which are provided with a television in their kennel to the abandoned puppies at the R.S.P.C.A. Most people do not choose to be confronted with a subject such animal cruelty but my aim is to make people realise they can assist in changing these problems, for example by signing petitions when the R.S.P.C.A are trying to change a law because they always need public backing. I am always willing to accompany my images, or enhance them, with text and anything else that will strengthen the result I am hoping to achieve. My work has always had a documentary theme running throughout it because I cannot simply pick up my camera and snap away, I like to take images for a reason, and especially one that has such a meaning that may make a difference, no matter how small.
