Title: Memories of a family
"On the surface, the family photograph functions primarily as a record: it stands as visible evidence that this family exists, that its members have gone though the passages conventionally produced in the family album as properly and necessarily familial." Annette Kuhn, Family secrets: acts of memory and imagination.
'Memories of a family' concentrates on recollections that everyone feels compelled to savour be it through photographs or objects. After studying my own family I have moved on to look at a friends. Does every family collect important memories of their family in the same way? Do other people's memories mean anything to those outside the family? Does the family photograph really function primarily as a record, as evidence that the family exists? |
